Long term data show statins reduce CHD riskin familial hypercholesterolmia
Statin treatment for familial hypercholesterolmia reduce of the risk of myocardial infraction and brings it in line with that of general population, a long-term cohort study has found.
Lower doses of statins than those currently recommended were found to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease to a greater extent than was expected in patients with familial hypercholesterolmia.
The study,which was conducted in 2146 patients reported an overall risk reduction of 76% after a mean follow a up of 8,5 years.The risk of myocardial infarction in patients treated with statins was significantly greater than in an age-matched sample from the general population.
PCI or CABG for diabetic patients?
The jury still out over which is the better treatment option for diabetic patients-Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) or Coronary Artery By pass Graft (CABG)
results from the coronary artery revascularisation in Diabetes ( CARDIa ) trial indicate that more repeat revascularization procedures occur at 12 months in diabetic patients randomized to PCI compared with CABG

The DES controversy
The european society of cardiology (ESC) meeting in Barcelona caused great uproar over drug-eluting stents (DESs) and the controversy persist till today.
Professor carlo Di MArio, A professor of cardiology at the royal Brompton Hospital,London,said the following the ESC 2006 meeting,Data from randomized trials and regitries and restonosis,re-intervention,latestent trhombosis,myocardial infraction (MI) and mortalilty with bare metal stents (BMSs) were intensely scrutinized.
