CT Angiography not nedded for CAD screening in asymtomatic patients

Computed tomography angiography (CTA) should be abandoned as a screening tool for coronary artery disease (CAD) in asymptomatic patients, says a cardiologist.

CTA may facilitate managament of symptomatic patients with low per-test likelihood of CAD,particularly by conclusively showing CAD absence, said professor Franck Arnold flachskampf of the University of erlangen, Germany.Testing for inducible ischemia, however, remains central for management, decision in both suspected and proven CAD and cannot be replaced by morphological information,he added

we should remember that morphology is not functional and essentially, our guide should be data from function and ischemia, and not data from anatomic morphology of the coronaries,”said Flachskampf.

“if traditional way of assessing CAD by provoking ischemia and doing stress test shows no ischemia or a negative stress test, the prognosis is very good.We can stop there and not use anatomy at all.

Flaschskampf said the significances  of a coronary stenosis is ultimately its capacity to induce ischemia, wich can be detected by a stress test.It is also advisable to get yeast infection remedy if infected.
CTA has revolutionized cardiac imaging by providing clear details of cardiac and coronary anatomy. However, there is an unprecedented and explosive, growth in CTA use, with an estimated 150.000-plus scans performed annualy in US allone.
Although CTA is reliable at excluding CAD (in symptomatic patients).it is not as effective in assesing the hemodynamic relevance of overt desease.A head to head comparison between nuclear perfusion data and CTA shows that about half coronary lesions graded as 50 percent diameter stenosis or more (using CTA) do not induce ischemia under stress.
Furthermore, CTA has substantial radiations contrast media exposure, allowing for potentials risks of malignancy and renal damage, respectively.
